How businesses can embrace change during COVID-19

It seems like everyday brings a new wave of anxiety and uncertainty at the moment. Without playing down the gravity of the situation, it is more important than ever to adopt a growth mindset. Now is the time to think laterally, look for new opportunities and find the silver linings.

Not being able to forecast out 12 months let alone 6 months currently is challenging — but don’t let pessimistic talk take over, don’t let the fear win. Take this opportunity to work on your business and not in the business. Allow the stillness to let us stop and take stock. Ask yourself some of the following:

  • What was working for us and what was not working well?

  • Readdress your business strategy and business plan — What is your “WHY?” Why did you go into business in the first place?

  • Readdress your core values — Are you and your team living into these values and where do your clients/customers sit on your core value spectrum?

In today’s world, the only certainties are change and taxes. Will you use it to let go of outdated practices, discover new models of work or create new offerings and products? Or will it be a time of fear, panic and stress. How you respond to change is up to you.

So how do we succeed both personally and professionally in a world where change is the only constant? First, we must accept that change happens whether we like it or not. Second, we must embrace change with an optimistic attitude and an eye to the future, however challenging this may be. Open your mind to the opportunities that present themselves in this ever-changing world, no more so than at this present time. What can we do in our day-to-day lives to harness those opportunities and secure our future?

Here are some places to start:

Embracing change requires initiative and courage. It’s not always easy, but the rewards will be worth it. See change as an opportunity and not a threat. Be strong, be brave.
